At Doyle Vineyard Management, we know that great vineyards are built by great people, and we’re proud to shine the spotlight on Rich Bussmann!

After retiring from a 40-year career in the manufacturing industry, Rich joined our team in 2025 and brought with him a strong work ethic, a love for agriculture, and a willingness to learn. Having grown up on a farm, working in the vineyards has allowed him to reconnect with his roots while helping care for the vines that produce world-class Finger Lakes grapes.

Rich enjoys every aspect of vineyard work, from learning how grapes are grown to operating equipment and working alongside an outstanding team. His positive attitude and dedication make him a valued member of the DVM family.

🚜 This week at our estate vineyard at Quarry Ridge

🚜 This week at our estate vineyard at Quarry Ridge Winery, we’re spreading grape pumice onto the ground that will become new vineyard plantings this summer. Woo hoo! For those of you who love our small-batch QR Sauvignon Blanc wine, a portion of this new vineyard will be more of just that!!

Grape pumice is the natural leftover from the winemaking process. It is the solid by-product of grape skins, seeds, and stems after the fruit has been pressed. Instead of letting it go to waste, we return it back to the land the following season to help build healthy soils, add organic matter, and continue the cycle from vineyard ➝ wine ➝ vineyard again. 🍇🌱

There’s something special about watching the next generation of vines begin with the very fruit that came before them.

Spring has officially arrived in the vineyard… and

Spring has officially arrived in the vineyard… and the vines are waking up 🌱

We’re seeing bud push across the grapevines. Those tiny, fuzzy buds are beginning to open, revealing the first bright green leaves of the 2026 growing season. It’s one of the most exciting (and nerve-wracking) times of year for us. Everything that becomes a great bottle of wine starts right here, in these delicate first moments.

At this stage, the vines are incredibly vulnerable, especially to cold nights and spring frost, but they’re also full of promise. Each bud holds the potential for this year’s crop, and it’s a reminder of just how much care, patience, and faith goes into farming.

Next time you’re at the winery, take a walk through the vineyard and see the start of something special. This is where it all begins 🍇
